1 My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands
within you, 2 turning your ear to wisdom and applying
your heart to understanding, 3 and if you call out for insight and cry aloud
for understanding, 4 and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as
for hidden treasure, 5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find
the knowledge of God. 6 For the LORD gives wisdom,
and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
1Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of
God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to
God—this is your spiritual act of worship. 2Do not
conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's
will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. 3For
by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more
highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in
accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.
Colossians 1:9-14
9For this reason,
since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and
asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual
wisdom and understanding. 10And we pray this in order
that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way:
bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11being strengthened with all power according to his glorious
might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share
in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. 13For
he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom
of the Son he loves, 14in whom we have redemption, the
forgiveness of sins.
1 Solomon made an alliance with Pharaoh King of
4 The king went to Gibeon to offer
sacrifices, for that was the most important high place, and Solomon offered a
thousand burnt offerings on that altar. 5 At
6 Solomon answered, "You have shown great kindness to
your servant, my father David, because he was faithful to you and righteous and
upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given
him a son to sit on his throne this very day.
7 "Now, O LORD my God, you have made your servant king in
place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to
carry out my duties. 8 Your servant is here among the
people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. 9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your
people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is
able to govern this great people of yours?"
10 The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. 11 So God said to him, "Since you have asked for this and
not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your
enemies but for discernment in administering justice, 12
I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so
that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. 13 Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both
riches and honor—so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings. 14 And if you walk in my ways and obey my statutes and
commands as David your father did, I will give you a long life."
